About the Team
The South Albany Southern Belles Dance Team is a year round sport and a zero/first period class at South Albany High School in Albany, Oregon.
The Beginning of the Season
This year, tryouts took place at the end of April. We select the following year's team and lay out our expectations for the year.
From May through December, we fundraise continuously.
Every year, the newly selected team members are required to attend the Thunderbird Dance Camp for four days in the beginning of July at the University of Portland. The team stays in the dorms and has an amazing opportunity to learn many routines and bond. The team also attends a commuter camp hosted by the Highlights in Stayton, Oregon later in July.
We start learning a few dances which we perform at football and basketball game halftimes during the coming months. We also gear up for our category portion of the competition season.
Competition Season
Our competition season kicks off with the category season. We generally try to bring at least a jazz routine. We will attend competitions throughout category season, leading up to the DDCA Championships in December.
Traditional Competitions begin in January. All these competitions lead up to the OSAA State Championships in March which is held in Portland, Oregon.
